EVOCATIONS
Nature, Myth and Abstactions
DAMAR LANGIT TIMUR & LAURENCE SPICHER
A collaboration between young artists from Bali, Indonesia, and Basel, Switzerland, both of whom explore their respective experiences of nature and their being in nature. The ideas expressed in the works of both artists share a commonality rooted in the power of the encounter between the physical and spiritual worlds, between intuition, memories, and imagination, and the empirical reality of form, color, texture, and natural phenomena. Such an encounter is more than simply a juxtaposition; it creates a reflective space in which both artists are called upon to re-consider the relationship between human and nature, the ethics of existence, and the myriad alternative ways in which nature can be interpreted.
The original perspectives of both artists at the same time continue an important dialogue between East and West, as represented by their respective generations. Returning to their respective cultural and spiritual roots has created a critical space for dialogue, wherein discussion concerning nature is truly universal. ‘Evocations’ presents not only beauty, but also the ways in which the power of - and the interaction between - the soul and spirit, the invisible spirit, and extraordinary experiences, can be presented as an effort to entice most anyone to a closer connection with nature.
