A visionary, a poet, a modernist. Chairil Anwar’s life was short but prolific and impactful. One can only wonder if he didn’t leave us too soon, how his words would have influenced future generations of Indonesia. How his poems would have reached far beyond the archipelago, for his works are certainly a bridge of evolution between classic Indonesian poetry and new forms.
