Shipibo-Konibo: Portraits of My Blood at CushCush Gallery
1B Gg. Rajawali Dauh Puri Klod
Dec 6 - Dec 19
As a native son of the community, photographer David Diaz Gonzales shares with us through his lens; his world of the Shipibo-Konibo, an Indigenous people who have inhabited the Amazon Rainforest along the Ucayali River for more than 1,000 years. They are known for their deep ethnobotanical knowledge, remarkable medicinal practices, and their iconic Kené patterns, which embody their cosmology, spirituality, and a holistic philosophy that celebrates consciousness and balance between humans, spirits, energies, and the universe.
The cultural practices within Shipibo Konibo: Portraits of My Blood, captured by David Diaz as its native son, celebrate how photography can become a medium that freezes time for every memory, every moment, and every act of living. Especially within a cultural context, archiving through photography stands as a long-standing method that offers many angles of understanding, making it an intriguing subject to explore in CCG Discover #28: Capturing a Moment in Time, together with researchers, academics, and the photography community in Bali.
